A Sharks Fan Plea To Montreal and Philadelphia Fans For Assistance

San Jose SharksWhen it comes to the San Jose Sharks and their 0-2 game deficit, the question is “Are we done yet?” That’s actually a two-way question. “Are we done yet” as in are the San Jose Sharks done for the year? Was it just another great year, this time accomplishing most what they set out to do - go deep in the playoffs and banish the stigma that they can’t get it done in May. Or “Are we done yet” as in are the Sharks done with the lackluster play and are they ready to play hockey the way we know they can? Are they ready to get to work and get back into this thing by stealing two games from the Chicago Blackhawks they way the Blackhawks stole two in San Jose?

We will just have to wait and see.

My hope is that the Sharks are just REALLY rusty after 7 days off. Although the Blackhawks are an amazing team - quick like the Chicago Avalanche but big like the Detroit Red Wings - I don’t think the Sharks have played up to their full potential just yet. I know this is the year of the ‘down 3 games to 1′ comebacks, as well as the ‘once every 35 years down 3 games to none comeback’, but I still have a bad feeling about this one. As of this writing I’m not feeling too keen about watching the game on Friday, but the beauty of sports is you find hope in the waning hours before the puck drops and - when it does drop - hope usually returns and all else is forgiven.

This is a plea to Montreal and Philadelphia fans - how did you keep the faith when your teams were staring at what appeared to be insurmountable adversity?

  1. Chin up Sharksfan, it isn’t over yet. We may have looked rusty in the first game, but we were totally dominated in the second game. I kept telling myself we would make the correct adjustments after game 1 and come out flying for game 2, but we still looked flat for some reason and have run into another hot rookie goaltender again. It’s hard to blame the Sharks for their lackluster performance. They seem to be scrabbling in front of the net and trying everything to get the puck to go in the back of the net. They seemed to be playing well, but not good enough to overcome a confident Blackhawks team. Right now Chicago is just a better team than the Sharks.

I think we juggle the lines a bit Friday and try and get some secondary scoring. We just need to settle ourselves a bit and go back to what worked for us. Maybe we need to play a little chippy to get the juices flowing. Hopefully we can do what Chicago did and win two in their barn and even up the series, but let’s just focus on Friday first. If it helps, I’ve decided to shave my playoff beard before game 3. I’ve also decided to hide all my Sharks memorabilia and it seemed to work for the first two series, but I’m going to break them out and show my colors. Maybe we can will a goal past Niemi.

    Keep the faith.
