Vancouver Canucks

Canucks Need Sundin

The Vancouver Canucks need a leader and that is what Mike Gillis had in mind when he made his two year twenty million dollar offer to Mats Sundin earlier this year. The current rumor is that Sundin is working his way into shape somewhere in California and will be returning to the NHL soon. My sense is that the Canucks are out of luck and that Sundin will sign with the New York Rangers or the Montreal Canadians.

The Canucks have the Sedin twins and some fine young players such as Ryan Kessler and Alex Burrows, but they lack the leader that can score the big goal and rally the younger guys so that they elevate their game. Sure they’ve had some early season injuries and have played six games out of seven on the road, but they are near the bottom of the league in penalty killing and power play goals and they are almost constantly playing from behind. They play eight of their next ten games at home and if they don’t win six of these games it’s going to be a long and sad season for fans.

  1. I personally think Sundin is still going back to Toronto. Lots of teams are still in the hunt, but nothing makes more sense to me than toronto.
I wrote up a summary of who is interested and where he might end up.
    My thoughts. http://jib-sports-culture.blogspot.com/
