Canucks On Target With One More Road Game To Go

Back on November 16th, when the Canucks were about to embark on the longest stretch of road games that they will encounter this season, I wrote that:

“The formula for making the playoffs can be relatively simple. Win two thirds of your games at home and half of your road games and you end up with 96 points which is enough for a 4th or 5th place finish. Approaching the quarter pole for the season, the Canucks are 6-2-1 at home and have won 4 and lost 4 on the road. So far the formula has been followed with perfection. Between now and their 30th game on December 13th against the Oilers in Edmonton, Vancouver will play eleven out of thirteen games on the road. If their point total over this period seems to fall, Canuck fans should not despair. As long as the team has 34 points when they meet the Florida Panthers at home on December 14th, they will be okay. Any point total higher than 34 will be good news indeed.”

The good news is that with one road game to go, the Canucks have 35 points and they have achieved this even though Roberto Luongo has been out with an injury over the last nine games. The bad news is that the Canucks could be even better, but inconsistent and at times sloppy play has resulted in several losses when the team was ahead or tied in the 3rd period.

After tomorrow night’s game in Edmonton, the Canucks will play seven of their next eight games at home. They will need to be more consistent all around during this home stand if they hope to stay on the pace that I believe is necessary for a successful season and a birth in the playoffs.

  1. Hey OT - you sound like a bean-counter with all of your number crunching. Make sure you boil some water in time for the “birth” and try not to cry when the Canucks get bounced!
