Coyotes Vs Islanders Or The Battle Between Nosebleed And Glass Seats |
Saturday night I attended the Coyotes game against the Islanders and the seats were incredible. 2nd row off the glass in between both benches. And I didn’t see a darn thing. Ok, I may be exaggerating but while the seats was amazing let me tell you how difficult it is to watch the game with all the drama unfolding before you on the bench. The line changes, the player chatter and Tyson Nash doing the color commentary in between both sections. It’s downright distracting. You don’t have this problem when you sit higher up, you only focus on the game. Now before you call me ungrateful, I love sitting down there. The energy and intensity is palpitable but you just REALLY have to concentrate.
That being said, the game was really uneven. The Yotes started off strong with Ed Jovanovski’s goal in the first 3 minutes of the game but lost steam fast. The Islanders rallied, got a point and right before the 1st intermission Jovo Cop took a 5 minute penalty and a game misconduct for an elbow. The 2nd period completely belonged to our opponents and they scored 3 more goals leading the Coyotes 4-1. Ilya Bryzgalov, obviously in need of day off was replaced by Jason LaBarbera in net. Things were looking pretty bleak but the boys, in a fantastic recovery scored 3 goals in less than 4 minutes to tie up the game. Paul Bissonnette, Mr. Unlikely, led the goal charge with Taylor Pyatt and Mr. Even-More-Unlikely Peter Mueller following close thereafter. Apparently Shane Doan made one heck of a 2nd intermission inspiration speech. And Bissonnette (aka BizNasty) was their biggest cheerleader from the bench, shouting out encouragement all through the period.
The OT was scoreless and the Islanders took the shootout with 3 out of 6 shots. A great Coyotes rally that just ended up a little short but hey we got the point and we need all of those we can get. Plus, my goalie daughter got a hat thrown out to her from 2nd star of the game Matt Lombardi and we got Oggi Stix and a Burrito Supreme so it wasn’t a total wash.
Let’s Puck!
I gotta ask, how much is a 2nd row seat behind the benches? For perspective, I found 2 tix against the glass for Thursday’s game against the Bruins - and via Ticketmaster they’re $182 each. And did your tickets come with free hot dogs?
Well ours gives you access to the Toyota Club which means free food (prime rib, ribs, pasta, hot dogs, desserts etc), free drinks (including beer and wine) and great restroom access! LOL The face value of the ticket is $180. And the players walk right by on their way to the ice so my daughter gets a little interaction which is fun for her.
That’s one of the best thing about hockey - the way the players interact with the kids.
They are always really good with her. We are going on a sponsor trip with the team next month so I should have some great stories when I get back
With all of these ‘incentives’, why can’t they pack the house?
EVERYTHING is FREE, right down to the shuttle service, yet the Coyote Uglies can’t seem to make time to attend even weekend games…
Didn’t your mother ever tell you it’s not nice to call people names? And they have packed the house..just not every night..YET!
