Vancouver Canucks

Dear Shark’s Fan – aka the Young Whippersnapper

Dear Young Whippersnapper:

Your true wit was never better expressed than in your blog this morning “A Letter To An Editor”. I can just imagine the gleam in your eye as you traveled home after last night’s game composing this epistle in your head while all the while laughing and joking with your friends at the ease in which the Sharks disposed of the seemingly inept Vancouver Canucks. No doubt, my son, who first introduced us, laughed along with you, but he would also have cautioned you not to be too outrageous in your comments lest they come back to haunt you later. Thus, your closing words …“Don’t feel too bad, it happens to everyone. No really, I mean it, when it comes to this year’s Sharks, it happens to everyone!”

I had been looking forward to last night’s game, but I was not surprised at the outcome. I predicted the debacle in a telephone conversation earlier in the day as follows:

1. In an emotional and hard fought game, the Canucks beat the Ducks at home on Monday night than had to fly to San Jose, arriving at their hotel only a few hours before daybreak.
2. The team would be starting their 3rd string goalie, rookie Cory Schneider, since Roberto Luongo is out with an injury and Curtis Sanford had played the night before.
3. The San Jose Sharks handled the Canucks with ease last year winning all four games and out scoring Vancouver 15-6.
4. The Sharks are the best team in the NHL so far this year and have not lost a home game in regulation time.

I could go on, but you get my drift. On top of everything else, this team had probably the worst game in their history and they looked at times like a peewee team playing against their dads. But one game does not a season make As you point out, just as the Sharks learned something from the thrashing they received from the Red Wings (6-0)., I hope the Canucks learned something last night. It’s a long season, so put a reminder on your calendar for the Shark’s visit to Vancouver on January 20th, and remember, as the saying goes … “It ain’t over till it’s over.”

Merry Christmas!
