ESPN Predictions For The San Jose Sharks

San Jose SharksThe ESPN Power Rankings have the San Jose Sharks second behind the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The caveat is that the rankings are for the regular season, basically making no predictions for the Sharks’ strength in the post season. What I found interesting is that, in the Pacific Division, the Anaheim Ducks are ranked 9th despite the loss of Chris Pronger and other players during last season’s sell off. Scott Burnside credits the Ducks’ strength in goal as the reason for keeping the Ducks in the Top 10. The Dallas Stars are ranked 26th and the Phoenix Coyotes rank dead last. The Los Angeles Kings, however, are ranked 14th - is the rebuild finally coming to fruition?

Also from ESPN, EJ Hradek and Matthew Barnaby preview the Pacific Division, expressing much excitement about the possibility for Dany Heatley to score 50-60 goals when being lined up with Joe Thronton. Finally, Barry Melrose and Matthew Barnaby break down the Western Conference, discussing why they think the Detroit Red Wings may be on the downside of their “run” with the Chicago Blackhawks and Sharks being the top teams to represent The West for the Stanley Cup.
