Is It The Shoes?!

Admin Icon I was watching the Sharks games against the Ducks and Flyers and I saw something that caught my eye. Granted it was an odd-man rush, but when Evgeni Nabokov tried to kick save this one goal the puck went under his pad, under his calf for the score. This seemed to happen more than once so I thought I wonder if the equipment change has something to do with the condition of the Pacific Division.

Evgeni Nabokov - 2.39 GAA .893 Sv%
Jean-Sebastien Giguere - 3.02 GAA .899 Sv%
Marty Turco - 4.05 GAA .844 Sv%

The new equipment rules shortens the length of the pad covering the knee from 6 inches to 2.5. Even though it’s at the knee, apparently when a goalie drops into the butterfly position, the extra knee pad pushes the pads down toward the skate.

I know the Sharks had some defensive breakdowns in the Ducks and Flyers games so part of Nabakov’s numbers aren’t entirely his fault, but I haven’t seen enough Stars or Ducks games to know if they too are having defensive issues or if their goalies seem a little out of sorts.

Anyone out there seen enough games to have an opinion?
