  1. Hi Canucklehead,

The Sharks actually have 6 picks in total. They received additional picks with trades of Staubitz and with Atlanta:

Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has acquired a seventh round selection (188th overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, defenseman Michael Vernace and left wing Brett Sterling from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for future considerations.

Vernace and Sterling are due to become free agents on July 1.

The Sharks now hold six selections in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft set for June 25-26 in Los Angeles: First round (28th overall), third round (88th overall), fifth round (127th, 129th and 136th overall) and seventh round (188th overall).

The draft will be live on Versus and TSN at 4:00 Pacific Time.

But yes, we must choose wisely.

Also TSN is reporting The Atlanta Thrashers are shopping the 8th overall pick. This is general manager Rick Dudley’s sixth draft as a GM and he has traded a first round pick five times, including the 24th pick in tonight’s draft in the Dustin Byfuglien deal earlier in the week.

Hockey Insider Darren Dreger is also reporting that along with the 8th pick, that the Columbus Blue Jackets are open to dealing the 4th overall pick, and that new Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon is seeing a lot of interest in the 15th overall pick, but Florida has yet to pull the trigger on a deal.

The New Yorks Islanders are now reportedly open to dealing the fifth overall pick.

The Phoenix Coyotes are also said to be shopping the 22nd overall pick as well, and the club is said to be looking for either a young player and a lower pick in return or a package with multiple picks.

    Stay Tuned!
