Phoenix Coyotes Have Been “Mis-managed”

Phoenix CoyotesWell no duh chet…This is a direct quote from Anthony LeBlanc during an intermission interview with Todd Walsh Wednesday night. Anthony LeBlanc is the CEO of Ice Edge Holdings, the group who have signed the letter of intent to buy the Coyotes from the NHL. The group which is comprised mostly of Canadian businessmen has been very interested in purchasing the team since the team was put in bankruptcy in May. Their business plan includes having the team play several “home” games in Saskatoon to help subsidize the team’s losses. This appears to be a somewhat viable option to get some dollars back into the organization however I have my doubts as to whether this move is going to endear Phoenix fans to the team or drive them even farther away.

During the interview with Todd Walsh, LeBlanc appeared very enthusiastic and energetic about the possible sale. Apparently the group is very ingrained in the sport with some of them having played the game professionally. LeBlanc mentioned that, aside from the obvious mismanagment of the team, the fact that they have not seen playoff action in 6 years is a major contributing factor to lagging attendance. Again..no duh.

Wins = attendance = loyal fans. This is not a difficult concept to master.

Todd Walsh concluded the brief interview with LeBlanc outlining that it would be 3-4 weeks before a formal letter would be drafted. So much for a quick turnaround and new lease for the Coyotes.

  1. You “Wins = attendance = loyal fans” concept is flawed. Toronto sucks and they literally pack the house. Phoenix has a new arena, the cheapest tickets, freebies galore, and have kicked ass so far, but they only managed to put over 10,000 butts in the seats maybe twice? And this is halfway through the season now. The fans are not, were not and never will be ‘loyal’ to this team. Sell ‘em and move ‘em asap!

  2. Hasn’t Toronto had their team just a wee bit longer than Phoenix?
