Pittsburgh Penguins: Advance to Eastern Conference Finals

Pittsburgh PenguinsWhat a great series. The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals made this a series that will be remembered for quite some time, well that is at least the first six games. Game 7 was a huge disappointment for Capitals fans as they were dismantled by the Penguins with a score 6 - 2. Rookie goaltender Simeon Varlamov was pulled after the Pens took a 4-0 lead but Theodore wasn’t able to do much either as he gave up an additional two goals. This series made me exhausted just watching it. My hats off to the Caps. They played well and look to be a team that will be right back in the hunt next year. Varlamov was outstanding considering his inexperience and even though Game 7 was a disaster for him he showed a lot of promise.

I certainly hope the NHL gained a lot from the Ovechkin vs Crosby match up and both players held up their end of the bargain. Evgeni Malkin had a disappearing act for the first two games, but came back to life in Game 3. The Capitals had a disappearing act of their own with Alexander Semin and Mike Green. Overall, I applaud the Capitals for an amazing series.

The Pens will now wait until tomorrow night to find out who they will play in the Eastern Conference Finals. Carolina and Boston will be playing in Game 7. If Carolina wins the Penguins will have the home ice advantage.

Let’s Go Pens!

  1. Congratulations on the win. Gee, it’s after Mother’s Day and your team is STILL playing hockey - I wish I knew what that feels like!
