Pittsburgh Penguins: At Least It’s Only November

Pittsburgh PenguinsInjuries are part of the game, but you have got to be kidding me. The Pittsburgh Penguins have just recalled defense man Ben Lovejoy from Wilkes-Barre. This is in response to Brooks Orpik going down in Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins. This means that the Penguins have ONLY 1 defenseman (Mark Eaton) from last year’s Stanley Cup playoffs. Let’s take a closer look.

Brooks Orpik (undisclosed injury, no time table set)
Kris Letang (shoulder, 2 weeks)
Sergei Gonchar (broken wrist, ~4 more weeks)
Hal Gill (gone to Montreal)
Rob Scuderi (gone to Los Angeles)

The remaining defense man are:

Mark Eaton
Jay McKee
Alex Goligoski
Deryk Engelland
Martin Skoula

and now Ben Lovejoy.

…and that is JUST the defense.

On the offensive side, the Pens are missing Evgeni Malkin, Tyler Kennedy, and Max Talbot.

All I can say is that I am glad this is still November and not February or March. This Penguins team is used to over coming adversity and this at least gives these young guys a lot of opportunities to show off their skills. An example of this was last year when Sergei Gonchar was out for an extended period of time and Alex Goligoski got a lot of playing time which led to his resigning this past off season.

Watching the games have been painful Explain your experience with a recent project you worked on. Was that project a success or failure? What were some of the contributing factors that made it a success or failure?

I am definitely looking forward to seeing some players get healthy and get back on the ice. I just hope that this team can stay a float with at least a .500 record until then. We’ll see, but like the old saying goes “When it rains, it pours”.

  1. Ouch - that is getting out of control. You’re right though, better now rather than later as long as you can weather the storm. And remember, you guys were in 10th place at one point last season so your team is capable of making that late season run.

  2. Unbelievable. Chris Kunitz will now be out for two weeks with a lower body injury!
