Pittsburgh Penguins: End Of The Road

Pittsburgh PenguinsAs all of you most likely know, the Pittsburgh Penguins were defeated Wednesday night in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals by the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs deserve this win as they played outstanding and deserve a lot of credit. It is difficult for me to not point fingers as to why the Penguins lost, but in reality Montreal won this series. The Pens had their shot and could not close out the Habs.

I was not as upset as I thought I would be. The Penguins have played two very long seasons back-to-back and this break is probably needed. I am excited about the potential of next year and look forward to the off-season moves that will be made. After this season and the playoffs I feel like the biggest issue that needs to be looked at next year is on the defensive side of the puck. It would be nice if the Pens could bring in another physical defensive defense man like Brooks Orpik. Of course, that will not be easy considering the little cap room that Pittsburgh has to work with.

Of all the UFA’s, I would like to see Gonchar (for the right price) and Cooke back the most. Even the Matt Cooke has his moments of playing dirty he is a valuable asset to this team and needs to be brought back.

I wish the rest of the teams good luck and am truly rooting for the Sharks now as I would like to see them get over the hump and win a Stanley Cup. In a way, I am relieved that the season is over as it can be quite draining (pathetic isn’t it?).

I would like to say thank you to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a great season and I am even more excited about next year!
