Pittsburgh Penguins: Guten Nacht to Philadelphia Flyers

Pittsburgh PenguinsAll I can say is…wow! What an amazing comeback for the Penguins. The Flyers went up 3-0 and all seemed lost until Max Talbot took on a fight against Daniel Carcillo of the Flyers. Talbot pretty much got his butt kicked, but that fight ended up being the turn around point for the Penguins who ended up scoring 5 unanswered goals to eliminate the Philadelphia Flyers from the playoffs. The Penguins will now have a little bit of time to rest up and wait to see who they will play in the next round. Boston is the only other team to have locked up their series as they swept the Montreal Canadiens.

This series spoke a lot about both the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers and if it was not for the absolutely amazing play of Marc-Andre Fleury this series could have been the complete opposite. Fleury played so well this series and I am very proud that the Penguins were able to capitalize on that and take the series.

The Flyers were a great test for the Penguins. This series seemed to be more like a Conference championship series than a first round. The Penguins will now wait to see the results of the Capitals-Rangers and Devils-Hurricanes series. Below are the current possibile match ups.

If the Rangers win and the Devils win…

Pens will play the Devils

If the Rangers win and the Devils lose…

Pens will play the Hurricanes and have home ice for the series

If the Rangers lose and the Devils lose…

Pens will play the Capitals…

If the Rangers lose and the Devils win…

Pens will play the Bruins

Overall, I am extremely happy the Penguins were able to pull out this HUGE win over the Flyers in Philadelphia, especially after being down 3-0 in the 2nd period. I am now looking forward to the next series and hope the Penguins will continue to only play better and look sharper.

One last note, I can’t help it but say that it was an even sweeter victory because it was done in Philly!

Go Pens!

  1. It’s a lot simpler for us - we lose, go home, we win, we play again. If we win the next two, we play the winner of the Blackhawks/Calgary series - at which point we REALLY won’t care which one, we’ll just be happy to have escaped Anaheim hell….

  2. sharksfan - The Sharks OT win last night was very impressive and might have turned the momentum swing. The next game is obviously going to speak the most about this series. If San Jose can pull out another win I would say that the momentum has completely swung from Anaheim to San Jose.
