Pittsburgh Penguins: Winner Takes All

Pittsburgh PenguinsIt has come down to this….one game. The winner of this one game takes home Lord Stanley. The loser goes home only one game away from claiming the Cup for themselves. The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings last night (Monday) 2-1 to have pushed the series to a decisive game 7. I love hockey. Of course, it helps that it is my team in the Stanley Cup Finals, but what an amazing post season this has been. The Pens are now one game away from claiming the Cup that they were so close to getting last year. They stepped up in a Game 6 which they had lost to Detroit last year. They got to watch the Red Wings skate the Cup around their home ice. Not this year…

There isn’t much left to be said about this Pittsburgh team. It has shown the poise of a strong family. After getting embarrassed and blown out in a 5-0 loss in game 5, the Pens came back to fight another day. They have earned themselves the chance to hoist the Cup this year. They were in 10th place in the Eastern Conference in February with many people wondering what went wrong with this season. They came back. The Pens were down 3-0 in a Game 6 in Philadelphia during the first round of the playoffs. They came back to win 5-3. The Pens were down 2-0 in the series with Washington. They came back to push the series to a game 7 which they won 6-2. The Penguins were down 2-0 to Detroit in these finals. They came back.

This is it. One last game.

Let’s Go Pens!

  1. I can’t imagine what it feels like - to have an entire 82 game season + 4 rounds of playoffs come down to one game. Unfortunately, the way sports fans think, lose and it was all for nothing (not really, but you know what I mean). There was some statistic that, if Detroit had won Game 6, the last time a team won two cups in a row in the same opponent’s building was the 76-77 & 77-78 Montreal team winning both times in Boston’s building. I wonder when the last time two different teams have won a Cup in each others building in back to back seasons? I think if the Pens win tomorrow, it will be the first time.

  2. That is a very interesting fact. I am hoping that fact will come to be an important one after game 7 tomorrow night. I am certainly nervous about this game, especially considering how well the Red Wings play at home. However, with all the importance the media is putting on the fact that Detroit is 11-1 (I think that’s right) at home this postseason that might benefit the Pens. Let’s hope that they can add one more loss to that record. This would be the most important loss of all though.

  3. Pittsburgh Penguins - Stanley Cup Champions! Let’s Go Pens!

I was very disappointed with Detroit fans as they showed no respect to the Penguins at the end of that game. As much as it hurt last year, the Pens fans showed Detroit respect when they skated the Stanley Cup around the rink.

    Never the less…Stanley Cup Champions!!!

  4. Wow another douche bag move by the Red Wings coach Babcock. When asked about the future of this Penguins team and whether or not they could be another power house like the Red Wings have been he says “It’s all about money. If I am not mistaken Malkin will be going from 3 million to 8..there goes two players”. Wow, I have lost a lot of respect for this team.

  5. Congratulations Pittpen

I’m on vacation at Disneyland and missed the game, but I’ll catch the replay on NHL network when I return. Not sure what happened with the Detroit fans but I remember when we were the 8th seed and they were number one and we won the first round and their fans doused our players with beer and hot dog wrappers. Forget about them and enjoy the Cup. Hope to see you in the finals next year. Well deserved and you showed what a true sports fan should be. This site is very respectful and civil. Enjoy the summer.

    FC Sharks Fan.

  6. Thanks. Correction on my previous post. I have not lost respect for the team, just the fans. They always pride themselves on being great fans for hockey.

FC Sharks Fan - I am going to Disney World today. Hope you are having fun.
