Proof That Ovechkin Belongs Among The Greats

Ovie potted his 200th on Thursday against the Kings on a 180 degree pivoting wrist shot. Who are the only people who have scored 200 goals in fewer games?

1.Wayne Gretzky (242)
2. Mike Bossy (255)
3. Mario Lemieux (277)
4. Brett Hull (280)

And how many did they end up with?

1. Gretzky 894 in 1487 games.
2. Bossy 573 in 752 games.
3. Lemieux 690 in 915 games.
4. Hull 741 in 1269 games.

Even Teemu Selanne, who is the only other current player to hit 200 goals in under 350 games (322), has scored 567 goals in 1105 games.

Knock on wood he stays healthier than Bossy and Lemieux.

  1. I *know* Ovechkin is a great player but by reputation only. It’s almost impossible to get any Capitals games out here unless you’re willing to pay for the Center Ice package.

  2. We don’t catch enough of any of the West Conference Teams out here either, just the odd spot on Versus or NBC games. I heard rumors a few months back that the NHL was discussing a contract with ESPN but I haven’t heard anything since.
