Proposal For A Delayed Penalty Rule Change |
There’s a new proposal in town, and its name is the “clear-the-puck-instead-of-just-touching-it” rule change. Apparently the owners are floating the idea of a new rule where, if your team is guilty of a delayed penalty AND your team is defending in it’s own zone, your team must clear the puck - just touching the puck isn’t enough to stop play.
One the one hand I like this rule, it minimizes the effect of an intentional penalty just to stop play and take your chances on the power play. I liken it to football where, if the defense commits a penalty the play is allowed to continue to its natural conclusion.
On the other hand how much more oh-fence does hockey need? I think we should let the new goalie equipment rules settle in before more changes are made.
Like I said, I like the idea but on the other hand, sometimes less is more.
I like the idea of the clear as it would take away the quick whistle to stop play.
