San Jose Sharks Hold Lead, Game In Hand

San Jose SharksThanks to a 4-1-1 record in their last 6 games, and a special thanks to the Red Wings for losing 2 straight in Detroit, the San Jose Sharks find themselves 2 points ahead of the Red Wings in the Western Conference standings, and also hold a game in hand. Unfortunately the next 4 games for the Sharks come against teams either desperately trying to make the playoffs (Edmonton Oilers, Anaheim Ducks (2)) or a Calgary team trying to maintain it’s lead in it’s division. While the Sharks are playing those 4 games, 3 of which are on the road, the Detroit Red Wings will be playing just 2 games, both at home. Mark my words, home ice for the Sharks is going to come down to the last game of the season.

Meanwhile the injury list is getting frighteningly long for the Sharks. With Patrick Marleau now out with a lower body injury, every line the Sharks skated earlier in the season has someone out. I’m really hoping the team is erring on the side of caution, that most of the guys could play but are just being held back in lieu of the bigger picture. My fantasy is that for Game 1 of the first round (for which, by the way, I have tickets!), everyone comes out of the tunnel healthy, rested and ready to go. In the mean time I think it’s great that the team has been able to stay competitive despite a line up of forwards now at 33% Worcester. Unfortunately I doubt that kind of mix will hold up during the playoffs.

Duxrox was right, Moen CAN fight.
