San Jose Sharks: Last Blogger Standing

San Jose SharksBlogging is not easy. Many people, myself included, initially consider blogging a form of written venting. “Easy” I thought, but not. It’s easy to pick up the phone and pontificate to my hockey friends over a 10-minute phone call, but trying to convert that 10-minute verbal assault into a properly formatted, clearly stated written editorial is not only more difficult as a task but takes considerably longer to complete.

This is why I’m eternally grateful to all the bloggers who have helped me sustain this site since the beginning of the 2008-2009 NHL season. I cannot speak for the other writers but, as a result of following everyone’s editorial, I’ve certainly developed a more empathetic connection to the other teams represented on The ‘Net.

If this post sounds familiar you are correct (and thanks for remembering). At the end of the season I like to acknowledge and thank all the writers for their participation over the last season, and I’m taking this opportunity to thank everyone once again.

“But wait, the season isn’t over sharksfan!”

Yes I know. But for the first time all the other teams represented by our regular bloggers have all been eliminated from the playoffs – all except one. This is new and uncharted waters, for the San Jose Sharks are the last team standing here at The ‘Net! It’s amazing when you consider how many of our bloggers represented playoff teams – canucklehead’s Vancouver Canucks, pittpen’s Pittsburgh Penguins, puckgal’s Phoenix Coyotes, colonelbagpuss’ Washington Capitals and rockandrollnobody’s Detroit Red Wings.

And if for nothing other than the vicarious relationship between bloggers, I appreciate everyone’s support moving forward. Just as I was hoping for pittpen’s Pittsburgh Penguins last year (sorry rockandrollnobody), puckgal, pittpen and canucklehead have all expressed their best wishes for the Sharks the rest of the way out.

The guys on XM Radio’s NHL Home Ice threw an interesting question out into the ether the other day – would you like the San Jose Sharks to win the Stanley Cup just so we can finally put to rest the whole ‘playoff letdown’ discussion? I want them to win so I can get one of those fancy “Stanley Cup Champion” patches and put it on my nephew and my jerseys!

Eight wins down, eight to go.

  2. It was a pleasure writing for your website again this year. I feel like the Eastern Conference is set up for an easy Western Conference Stanley Cup Championship so whoever wins the West wins the Cup.

    Go Sharks!

  3. If Sharks don’t make it - might have to get in touch with my French/Quebec ancestry and root for Habs! Je me souviens! Although Fliers looking tough - did you see the mullet on that Hartnell guy?

  4. Here’s to hoping that they figure out a way to disrupt Chicago’s cycle and score some power play goals. I thought they did a lot of good things in game one, but there are definitely some areas they can work on. GO SHARKS!

  6. So now I’ve gone from stressing out about getting to the finals to stressing out as to whether or not next year’s team will be able to compete for the cup. It’s never ending…
