San Jose Sharks Losing Streaks Are Few And Far Between |
Because I’m a glass half-empty kind of guy I wanted to guage the significance of the San Jose Sharks recent exercises in futility. The last time the Sharks lost 5 games in a row you have to go all the way back to the 2007-2008 season. From Feb 12-20, 2008 the Sharks lost to the Calgary Flames (4-3), Edmonton Oilers (3-2), New York Rangers (3-1), New York Islanders (3-2) and New Jersey Devils (3-2). To be fair, with the exception of the Rangers game, the Sharks lost games by only one goal during that 5 game road trip which included an East coast swing. To try and compare apples to apples, the last time the Sharks lost 4 games in a row at home you have to go all the way back to the 2003-2004 season. From Nov 11-18, 2003 the Sharks lost to the Colorado Avalanche (4-3), St. Louis Blues (4-3OT), Toronto Maple Leafs (2-2OT), New York Rangers (2-2OT). Granted the last two games were ties but in those 4 games the Sharks never managed to get the 2-point win, same as the most recent 4 game home losing streak.
Because I’m working on my new and improved optimist attitude I continued my research and found the following nuggets. Immediately following the Losing Streak of 2008 the Sharks embarked on their ‘other’ monumental run of recent history. After the loss to the Devils, the Sharks won 11 in a row and 18 of 20 before ending the season with two losses in games that had no meaning. The 2003-2004 season was average at best, but in the playoffs the Sharks did manage to get to the conference finals but lost Calgary Flames.
Only time will tell what effect the Streak of ‘09 will have.
Streaks are a funny thing. Our 5 game winning streak was the first since 2006-2007…Positive attitudes are also like the swine flu..very contagious

[...] lost their 5th straight hockey game. I did a little research on the subject and discovered that the Sharks don’t lose 5 games in a row very often. Here we are on March 20, 2010 and the Sharks have lost another 5 games in a row. I’m pretty [...]
