San Jose Sharks - Rob Blake Named Captain

San Jose SharksThe San Jose Sharks have named Rob Blake captain of the team. Dan Boyle and Joe Thornton will be alternate captains. This is an interesting choice because from a fan perspective, it looked like Boyle was a more aggressive player during last season’s abbreviated playoff run, but perhaps behind the scenes - where it counts - Blake is a more ‘motivating’ teammate. I think this is also interesting when you figure this is probably the last year Blake will play, in not in the NHL but at least for the Sharks. This opens up the captaincy for re-evaluation next year which you would figure you’d want. You get the guy you think can get you there this year, then find someone for the longer run next year.

  1. That is an interesting choice. It’s difficult for us fans because we truly don’t know what goes on behind the scenes in the locker room.

  2. A few months back, Doug Wilson was asked if the team has the kind of guy to captain a team to a championship and he said ‘yes’ - and Blake was one of the names. Blake seems like such a quiet guy on the ice that I would REALLY like to know what he’s like in the locker room.
