San Jose Sharks Say Goodbye To Evgeni Nabokov

San Jose SharksThe picture is coming into focus. The San Jose Sharks are reporting that Evgeni Nabokov will not return to the team for the 2010-2011 season. From sjsharks.com:

“Due to this situation Sharks will be going forward with a new goaltending situation next year, meaning Evgeni Nabokov, who has held down the top job since 2000, will not be back in teal.”

I guess now the question isn’t whether or not the Sharks will sign a free agent goalie (the answer is apparently ‘yes’), the question is whether or not that free agent will be the starter or the back up to Thomas Greiss.

  1. Interesting..and how do you feel about this? My guess would be that you are a little ambivalent and ready for some new blood in the water (pun intended) but I could be wrong.

  2. Last season proved you don’t need high priced goal tending, so I’d rather put more money into defensemen.

  3. Nabby was good for the organization, but his time has come and it is good that he is leaving. He will be missed, no doubt, as his interviews were always candid and he was always willing to take responsibility/call out team mates when things were rocky. But, this means that we get to keep Pacs and Marleau (they re-signed both yesterday), and I agree that the Sharks need to focus on their defense more and see what the goalies in the system can do.
