San Jose Sharks Shopping Ryane Clowe?

sharksfanXM Radio’s NHL Home Ice reported that the San Jose Sharks “…have spoken to a few teams about Ryane Clowe”. That’s it, that’s all they said.

While I think Ryane Clowe is one beast of a forward, he has been injured 3/4ths of the last 2 seasons. Perhaps the Sharks know something about Clowe’s overall health that we don’t know about? A comment directed at Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson at the recent “State of the Sharks” was that ‘we trust you’. Being so close yet frustrated when it comes to playoff performance, one has to wonder if Doug Wilson might start making ‘desperation’ moves as opposed to smart ones (or not making any moves in the first place). If the Sharks trade Clowe, what do you think the minimum return should be?

  1. TSN also reported this. I have pasted below what they said about the possible deal.

“Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks are in discussions with a couple of teams, with Sharks forward Ryane Clowe the centre of trade talks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have shown interest, but aren’t willing to part with their first round pick to close the deal, while the Philadelphia Flyers have also shown interest. However, San Jose is believed to have asked for either Claude Giroux, or Scott Hartnell…a price the Flyers aren’t willing to pay.”

  2. I think it’s all smoke. The Merc is reporting Clowe’s agent and GM Doug Wilson have already exchanged proposals and Ryan sounds like he has some unfinished business to complete in San Jose. I think it’s more of a ploy by San Jose that if he does not sign in the neighborhood of their proposal, he may get traded. If so, it could backfire as Clowe might be worth more on the open market.

    Stay tuned for the draft.

  3. No big suprise here:

The Sharks have extended qualifying offers to Ryane Clowe, Torrey Mitchell, Brad Staubitz and Thomas Greiss.

They are NOT extending qualifying offers to Marcel Goc, Tomas Plihal, Lukas Kaspar, Mike Morris, Riley Armstrong, Ashton Rome, Taylor Dakers and T.J. Fox.
