San Jose Sharks Victory Over The Calgary Flames A ‘Stomping’ Success
After dropping two games in a row for the first time this season, including the team’s first loss at home, the San Jose Sharks responded with a dominating win against the Calgary Flames Thursday night. The Sharks immediately went after the Flames racking up hit after hit during the first period, setting a relentless tone that continued until the game was well out of reach. This kind of response is exactly what we were talking about a few days ago, where it’s never been a matter of winning or losing but how the Sharks respond to adversity. Stopping a short losing streak is one thing, but responding is something completely different. Re-establishing themselves as a dominating team is exactly the kind of sign indicative of moving towards that championship mentality.
The next ‘character’ test will be two games from now when the team tries to respond to the Nashville Predators in Tennessee. Can the Sharks put a hurt on the Predators for ruining their perfect record at home?
From the ‘further-signs-there’s-a-new-sheriff-in-town’ perspective, the San Jose Sharks have set new team benchmarks:
- Most shots on goal in a game – 57 (from Tuesday night against the Nashville Predators)
- Most points by defensemen in a game (9 – 3 each for Rob Blake, Dan Boyle and Christian Ehrhoff)
- Most games in a season with at least 40 shots on goal (9)….and we’ve only played 18 games!
