Team Canada Looks Like Ghost Of San Jose Sharks Past

San Jose SharkDear Canada - I know how you feel. Canada’s loss to Team USA was eerily familiar, and I’m sure there are other San Jose Sharks fans who know exactly what I mean. On paper Team Canada looks almost unbeatable. When the Sharks’ top line of Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau is Team Canada’s THIRD line you know you’re talking about a team so deep in talent that there’s basically no depth on their squad - everyone is a starter.

So when a team like that goes into a game against an arguably undermanned opponent and gets out worked, out played and eventually beaten - you have the kind of let down that Sharks fans have been dealing with for the last few years. Because I was cheering for Team USA, I finally know what it feels like to be on the other side of that kind of upset.

So what does this mean to the Sharks fan in me? It’s a win-win situation. If this loss contributes to Team Canada failing to win the gold, it should be a nice, recent reminder for the core of the Sharks that come playoff time, take nothing for granted. If Team Canada bounces back from this and does win the gold, it’ll hopefully instill in that same Sharks core just what kind of ‘life and death’ effort it takes to win a tournament such as the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Now the problem is the extra games the core has to play - injuries continue to be the main concern.
