Washington Capitals Stand Pat

GM McPhee ended up not doing anything this deadline, a bit of disappoint for fans. I think we expected another big day like Huet, Fedorov and Cooke, but it wasn’t in the cards. I’ve heard that our price for Bouwmeester was Alzner, our top defensive prospect, Varlamov, our top goalie prospect, and another OHL prospect. A pretty hefty price for a guy who might walk come July. So probably best that he didn’t move for him. And with Brian Pothier coming back, depending on how he’s recovered from his concussion, could easily be a top 4 defensemen.

I would have liked to see an upgrade in goal, but I think Niklas Backstrom in Minnesota was the only goalie on the market and he was signed yesterday, and again, I’m sure we would have had to shuck out a huge amount of prospects.

Hopefully, Theodore will find himself, or Varlamov can channel some Dryden or Roy. More importantly, hopefully the Caps will remember how to play hockey and stop giving the South East division easy wins on our home ice.

  1. NHL Home Ice kept talking about how history shows recent Stanley Cup champs didn’t make big waves at the trade deadline - stay healthy with what you’ve got and with AO, anything is possible!
